In May of 1917 the news indicates that my Grandfather, A.A. Langford was constructing a building in Biggar. Would anyone know whether this building still stands and where it is/was located.

I believe that the first Nun in the first row left to right would be Sister Victor. Now the nuns were allowed to change their names in the sixties when the habit they wore changed as well. Sister Victor as I knew her was at St. Gabriel's until it closed in 1969. Does anyone know her former name?

Halloween treats were extra special at the Sharman's in the fifty's. You planned your route to definately go to their house because they gave big chocolate bars out for treats. What a thrill to get a nice Chrispy Crunch,Sweet Marie etc. for free. Those bars were 10. cents you know that was most of our allowance back then. Kids would line up as Mrs. Sharman brought out the tray of bars. We all got to choose one. I lived on fifthth ave. West at the time so all my friends and I would hurry down fifth towards main street so we would be the first kids to get there. At that time Jack & Evelyn lived on the corner of Fifth Ave West and Main Street. Those were the days.

My Grandfather George Koebel was a Butcher at Hock &Packers for many years. Young people got a weiner when accompanied by their parentws on grocery day. The only time weiners were not given out by grandpa was on Friday's to the Catholic kids who he knew by name."No weiner's today boys its Friday." Back then Fridays were a meatless day for Catholics. My father Gordon Burton also worked here as a grovery clerk. I remember the clerks who worked there as they waited on you and rung up yoour purchases. All our clothing was purchesed here etc for the odd thing we got from Sear's Catalogue. When my Grandmother was sick Abe Packer would send some canned fruit to her that she loved and could keep down. It was a gift from him for the many years of service Grandpa gave to the Store.

As a young girl of about 14 or 15 I remember serving the CWL ladies their dinner in the Katimavick(basement of Catholic Church). Memory escapes me as to the exact date but it would be sometime in the sixties. It was the only way the ladies could have the function without having to ask members to serve the dinner. Most of the girls who served where either daughters of the ladies or neices or granddaughters. We had quite the giggle trying to figue out how to carve the meat. From this time on alot of us girls from St Garbiel's were asked to help with weddings that the ladies catered. I remember helping with a wedding reception at the old Town Hall. I don't remember the Bride or Groom's name but the dinner was for 400 or so people. It was quite the reception. After dinner was served and the Master of Ceremonies took the microphone then the guests lined up to give the Bride enveopes with gifts of money inside I thought this was so cool. It was the start of volunteering for me and I still am involved today catering weddings in Maple Ridge BC for the Fraternal Order of Eagles. I loved the commradary of the CWL ladies. Everyone had their position or I guess I should say station when they catered. One lady was in charge of Coleslaw, one was in charge of Chiffon Cakes, six or so were in charge of Cooking Tturkeys, this task was generally left to the ladies who had young children at home and could not help in serving the meals. They laughed alot and it was interesting to see how much they each carred for one another many a problems were solved or items of interest disscussed they had their own help line before it become popular in the land of television.
