Francis Charles Saunders (1940-1998) was born October 4, 1849 in Biggar, Saskatchewan. He graduated from the University of Manitoba. He worked in construction, and opened up his own company where he completed construction projects for the pipeline industry. Saunders married Susan and together they had three sons, one daughter and raised one stepdaughter.

Saunder's father was William James Saunders born in Stockwell, Quebec in 1886, and his mother was Katherine Bridgett Campbell of Thetford Mines, Quebec. They married Christmas day in 1918, and had eight children.
