Fox Jewellers

The first jeweller in Biggar was N.W. Lickford. Lickford Jewellers store was located on the east side of the 200 block of Main Street. A pocket watch business sign was put up in the store September 11, 1913. Shortly after, he moved his business to the old Independent location on Main Street. N.W. Lickford left the jewellery business in July of 1914 when he sold it to J.G. Fox.
Along with the new owner came a new building under the business name of J.G. Fox Jewellers. His new business was set up in the Frampton Building. (The corner of Main Street West and Second Avenue) Two years later the business moved again to 217 Main Street, which is the current location of deMoissac Jewellers. J.G. Fox resided in the basement suite of the store. In 1948 J.G Fox died in this suite, and the suite has not been occupied since then.
After the death of Mr. Fox, his family continued operations with Louis deMoissac as a jeweller. Eight years later Louis and his wife Cecile purchased the business and renamed it "deMoissac Jewellers" In 1964 Louis deMoissac renovated and enlarged the store to its current size. Twenty one years later Louis sold the business to his daughter, Denise and her husband Ross Holt.
