The Empire Hotel on the corner of First Ave. and Main Street had been built and was in operation before August 1909. Heather & Fisher Bros. were the first owners of the Empire Hotel. Sometime before August 1909, Mr. C. Neil arrived in Biggar from Prince Albert and bought out the Fisher Bros.' interest in the hotel and later bought out Heather as well. After Mr. Neil took over, improvements were made. The Empire advertised having forty well furnished rooms and a first class dinning room. The Empire also proclaimed having the finest wines, liquors and cigars available for their guests. Later the Empire Hotel became known as the Canada Hotel and then as the Eden Hotel.
