In 1924, a group of Scots got together in Biggar and organized the Clachan as a way and means to promote Scottish music, poetry, dances and traditions of Scotland. [1] Mrs. J. Foster was the 1st Noble Chief. [1] They met in the homes of their members for meetings which were followed with a social evening and lunch. The socials often included songs of Scotland’s Poet Laureate, Robert Burns. [2] From time to time they held dances and sometimes held a banquet on Robbie Burns Day that were open to the public. In 1956, the Clachan sponsored a Scottish Variety Concert with Scottish Country Dancing, Highland Dancing, Scots Skits and Solos. [3]

The Clachan had a Patron Saint, Saint Andrew. In honor of his anniversary the Clachan in 1958, paraded as a body to the evening service in the United Church. [4]

Mr. George Porteous painted beautiful scenes of Scotland which were shown at their Burns and St. Andrews dances. [1]

At the Biggar parade for the Coronation of King George VI the Clachan had a float of Glamis Castle.
