As a young girl of about 14 or 15 I remember serving the CWL ladies their dinner in the Katimavick(basement of Catholic Church). Memory escapes me as to the exact date but it would be sometime in the sixties. It was the only way the ladies could have the function without having to ask members to serve the dinner. Most of the girls who served where either daughters of the ladies or neices or granddaughters. We had quite the giggle trying to figue out how to carve the meat. From this time on alot of us girls from St Garbiel's were asked to help with weddings that the ladies catered. I remember helping with a wedding reception at the old Town Hall. I don't remember the Bride or Groom's name but the dinner was for 400 or so people. It was quite the reception. After dinner was served and the Master of Ceremonies took the microphone then the guests lined up to give the Bride enveopes with gifts of money inside I thought this was so cool. It was the start of volunteering for me and I still am involved today catering weddings in Maple Ridge BC for the Fraternal Order of Eagles. I loved the commradary of the CWL ladies. Everyone had their position or I guess I should say station when they catered. One lady was in charge of Coleslaw, one was in charge of Chiffon Cakes, six or so were in charge of Cooking Tturkeys, this task was generally left to the ladies who had young children at home and could not help in serving the meals. They laughed alot and it was interesting to see how much they each carred for one another many a problems were solved or items of interest disscussed they had their own help line before it become popular in the land of television.
