Archibald Buchanan and his family emigrated from Glasgow, Scotland to Canada in 1912 and settled in Biggar in 1913.With him came his wife, Marion, and their 4 children: Jean, Hugh (of Buchanan's Meat Market), Robert (a co-partner with Lionel Jones in Mooney's Hardware Store) and Ann. Since Archibald had been a fireman in Glasgow in Glasgow, I'm sure the town was happy to have such a person in their volunteer Fire Dept. Archibald (called Archie by some and occasionally called Baldie) served with the Fire Dept. for 25 years, serving as Fire Chief for most of those years. His actual employment was with the railway, where he worked in the round house.
