Built in
1909 at 115 First Avenue West with Eugene Baron as proprietor. Mr Baron built and furnished the Biggar Hotel. The hotel was very well appointed in every particular and was a most comfortable inn. This was a three story building with a wrap around deck. At this time Mr Baron proposed to build an addition to his already roomy building for the accommodation of the rapidly increasing business.
In January 1910, the first school house classes were held above McPhee's store which has now been absorbed into the Biggar Hotel. Miss Sarah Hassard was the inaugural teacher.
This hotel has had many different proprietors throughout the years. Following the ads in
the Independent list Mr & Mrs J. Markling in 1929, in 1941 Mr. R.P. Hassard as proprietor. In 1964 George Hilsenteger.1968, Ida and Ewald Hicke of Killaly. 1980 saw the Victor Derbowka family own and operate the business.
1985 the business was co-owned by Irvin and Jane Bayda and Wally and Gloria Piowerbeski.
