Thie Biggar Historical Timeline is created from the headlines and news stories which were printed in The Independent newspaper, Biggar, Saskatchewan during the various periods which the timeline covers.

Some of the more current dates use main events which show up in provincial newspapers as The Independent covered many and several stories after 1970. Use of the provincial papers are used as a queue for those which newsmen thought were notable as they have not become "historical events" yet.

Unfortunately, for the early years of Biggar many of the newspapers have not survived. It is not until the 1940's when most the newspapers printed began to be preserved and later microfilmed.
