BCHS Gordon Burton Memorial - Biggar Encyclopaedia
Possibly the most popular staff member at BCHS during the years he was employed there, was Mr Burton, our caretaker. It never failed that when you were sitting in class struggling with Math, Science, French....writing an exam or just trying to get the day's work done.....there would come a cheery whistle or song, and it would be Mr. Burton coming down the hall! He was always more than willing to help the Dance, Decoration, Fashion Show, Drama or whatever other committee, when they needed something. He'd find what we needed, and with a smile on his face.

One time he told some of us that he wanted to go to an event, I think maybe a funeral, somewhere in the province, and couldn't get the time off. We said "we'll take care of that"! A group of us decided that we would do his job for that week.....we did floors, blackboards, dusting, all the basic maintenance that needed to be done, so he could get away. Not the principal nor any of the staff, even said a word to chastise us. But I bet the School Board never knew it was going on. And the job got done, with no problems!

Because we cared about the man, and knew he cared about each of us, when some of us planned a huge reunion for the Classes of 1960-66, we dedicated a plaque to the memory of Mr. Burton, one of our good memories of high school.
