Daryl Arnott attended Biggar Composite High School and graduated in 1974. He followed this by attending the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon to obtain his Bachelor of Education and Masters in Education. His thesis was entitled "Factors Affecting the Implementation of an Elementary Science Curriculum in Three Northern Saskatchewan Provincial Schools".

Arnott was a teacher in the Perdue School before providing curriculum guidance in northern Saskatchewan. He served as a principal at Pre-Cam Elementary School in La Ronge. He went on to become the Regional Director of the Northern Region Office, as well as Regional Superintendents of Curriculum and Instruction Department of Saskatchewan Learning. He was a steering committee member of the Power of Collaboration which came together to enhance library services, collections and programs held in the province of Saskatchewan. Arnott was a member of the program team which drafted the new Kindergarten curriculum guide. In 2008, he became the Superintendent of Education for Sunwest School Division.
